“I feel much better, thank you for all the love. The week of the fight I felt bad and I didn't feel good, I thought it was just the residual effects of the cut. I weighed 80kg when I accepted this fight 15 days in advance. Thursday night after 7 hours straight, I couldn't get off 68kg. I would later battle a fever and couldn't get into the final 5kg as my body started to shut down. Instead of risking huge health consequences and possibly canceling the fight, we were fortunately able to change the fight weight to 70kg. At the weigh-in, I still felt bad, but I was sure it would go away after I rehydrated and ate. Later that night I still felt unwell and was suffering from cold sweats and no sleep. I finally fell asleep at 6am on Saturday morning and woke up at 13pm hoping to feel better. I couldn’t keep food or water down or get up to use the bathroom,” Ortega said.

The North American revealed that the decision to abandon the fight against Diego lopes It happened on the afternoon of the event and he thanked Ultimate for understanding his health problem.

“I fought my own ego, called Tiki Ghosn (his manager) and Hunter Campbell (UFC matchmaker), and made the decision to cancel the fight. I dared to do something crazy for the love of fighting, but I got sick and my body gave out on me. I want to give the fans and my opponents my best performance every time I step into the cage. Diego lopes: I can only imagine what happened on your end, you have nothing but my respect and I will talk to Hunter and Tiki and make this right for you. To the UFC, Dana, Hunter and the fans, thank you for your support”, concluded 'T-City'.
