Present in the routine Alex Poatán and responsible for sharpening the arsenal of the light heavyweight champion (up to 93kg.), Plinio Cruz was sincere in assessing the chances of an immediate move for his pupil to heavyweight (up to 120,2kg.). Despite the interest of fans and even UFC collaborators in watching the Brazilian move up a category, the coach believes that it is not the right time at this moment.

"I like the idea. I think this will end up happening. I don't think now is the move, because let's be honest, the heavyweight division is clogged, it's at a standstill right now. First the Jon Jones you have to fight, first Tom aspinall We have to fight, so for us to be chasing something that’s not even moving yet, I don’t think that’s the point,” Cruz said on The MMA Hour.

When continuing with his speech, the coach stated that they never received proposals from the organization and assured that the focus is on defending the title.

“Poatan has shown interest in fighting at heavyweight previously. We have not received any response from the UFC regarding this. So right now, we’re just going to focus on defending this belt over and over again until the (heavyweight) division is on the move and we have something,” he concluded.

Currently, there is great expectation about Poatan's next challenges in the current category. With an eye on fighting for the title, Magomed Ankalayev he is looking for a chance to face the Brazilian next, but he is counting on a lack of reciprocity due to the lack of Jorge Guimarães, the Brazilian's manager. According to 'Joinha', as he is known, the ideal rival would be Jan Blachowicz.
