Once considered one of the biggest talents and biggest promises in world boxing, Ryan Garcia has been making headlines recently due to several controversies. In the last of them, the fighter was expelled by the World Boxing Council (WBC) after a series of prejudiced comments on social media. The decision was taken last Thursday (6) after Garcia made offensive statements against African-Americans, Jews, Muslims and other minorities, including identifying himself as a member of the Ku Klux Clan, an American extremist movement.

Mauricio Sulaimán, president of the WBC, stated, in a post on the social network 'X', that Garcia's actions are unacceptable and contrary to the sport's values of equality and respect.

“Exercising my authority as President of the WBC, I am hereby expelling Ryan Garcia from any activity with our organization. We reject any form of discrimination. I fear for Ryan's well-being as he has refused multiple attempts at our help with mental health and substance abuse.”

This incident is not isolated. Recently, Henry Garcia, Ryan's father and trainer, made a racist comment during a press conference involving boxer Devin Haney, which also sparked controversy.

In response to the expulsion, Garcia downplayed the comments, claiming that he was just joking and that his statements should not be taken seriously.
