Dos Anjos recalls Machida's help in facing McGregor and highlights the certainty of victory over his rival

Brazilian claims he was right in front of his compatriot during training; duel was never rescheduled

The year was 2016 and Rafael dos Anjos not only did he have great expectations of having one of the biggest fights of his career against Conor McGregor, as he had the help of Lyoto Machida in its preparation. Victim of a broken foot, the Brazilian was forced to abandon the fight, but eight years later he is still certain that he would have beaten the Irishman if he had had the opportunity.

“I was in great shape. I remember I was training with Lyoto Machida. He had a style similar to Conor McGregor. I was having good rounds against him. I was neck and neck with Lyoto. I was at my peak. I would have beaten McGregor for sure”, declared Rafael in an interview with Submission Radio.

At the time, the fighters would compete for the lightweight belt at UFC 196.
