Deiveson Figueiredo defeats Marlon Vera at UFC Abu Dhabi and sends a message to Dana White: 'I want the belt'

Deiveson Figueiredo is getting closer and closer to a title fight. The Brazilian overcame Marlon Vera by unanimous decision of the judges at UFC Abu Dhabi and asked to be the next challenger in the bantamweights (up to 61,2kg.) against the winner of Sean O'Malley and Merab Dvalishvili. The duel took place on the main card of this Saturday's event (3).

The result means that Deiveson remains undefeated in the bantamweight division and has a record of 24 positive results, three negative results and one draw.

'Chito', in turn, has a record of 23 triumphs, nine setbacks and one fight without result. The Ecuadorian suffers the second defeat in a row in his career.

Deiveson Figueiredo closer to the belt after victory over Marlon Vera in the UFC

Deiveson had a conscious first round. The Brazilian managed to put the fight down and, strategically, hit hard on top. He scored enough to open a good margin in the round. Marlon Vera he got up and tried a flying knee, but the former champion took advantage of the moment to impose another takedown.

The second round was tense, with balance, but Marlon Vera was superior. The Ecuadorian opened up the margin at short range, with strong blows to the waistline. A fight between the two fighters left the atmosphere tense.

A straight shot from Figueiredo made Vera fall, but then return. The Brazilian also threw a kick à la Anderson Silva which hit 'Chito' in the chin, once again absorbed. A round kick from the Ecuadorian was also landed, followed by a knee, both of which connected with the former champion's face.

Deiveson calls for title fight

With this result, Figueiredo puts himself in a privileged position in the fight for the bantamweight belt. The man from Pará demonstrated his ability to compete at the highest level in the category and showed that he is a strong candidate for the title.

“Hey, Dana. I hit Marlon Vera. Merab, O'Malley, you have my belt. I want to be next. I need to be the next challenger,” said Deiveson in a post-fight interview in the octagon.
