Current light heavyweight champion (up to 93 kg) and former middleweight champion (up to 83,9 kg), Alex Poatán does not hide his interest in moving up to heavyweight (up to 120,2 kg) and seeking to become the first three-division champion athlete in the UFC. The Brazilian's desire, however, clashes with the will of Dana White, president of the organization, who has already positioned himself against the movement several times.
In a recent interview with journalist Kevin Iole, Dana White responded to the matter again and stated that he would only accept Poatan's move up to heavyweight after the Brazilian completely 'swept' his current weight category.
“Let Alex do what he’s doing in the division. And you want to know? If he sweeps the division and we're sitting here wondering who's next, then let him move up to heavyweight and have some kind of super fight there,” said the president.
Light heavyweight champion since November last year, Alex Poatán counts on victories over four of the five members of the top 5 in the category, with only the Russian remaining Magomed Ankalayev and the Serbian Aleksandr Rakic on the list. The two even face each other in the UFC 308, in October, in a duel that could define the next and, who knows, the last obstacle between the Brazilian and the heavyweight division.
