The victory of Dricus du Plessis about Israel adesanya No. UFC 305 last Saturday (17) was fiercer than the numbers indicate. The scorecards released after the fight revealed an even contest, with two judges giving the victory to the South African and one to the Nigerian. However, it was a flawless rear-naked choke in the last round that sealed the fate of the fight for the middleweight belt (up to 83,9kg).
The fight scorecards were released by the UFC and show that Dricus was winning, but in a split decision. Charlie Keech and David Lethaby were seeing it 29-28 for him, while Ben Cartlidge was seeing it 29-28 for Adesanya, given the balance of the match.

The rivalry between the two fighters was already known, and expectations for the confrontation were high. Adesanya, former champion, was looking to regain the belt, while Du Plessis aimed to consolidate his position as the new king of the category. The fight was a real show, with intense exchanges of blows and moments of great emotion.
In the final round, the fight intensified. Dricus, visibly more tired, surprised everyone with an impeccable rear naked choke, which resulted in Israel ending up submitted for the first time. The clash also marked his first title defense.
With the victory, Du Plessis consolidates himself as one of the main names in world MMA. Adesanya, in turn, will have to deal with yet another defeat and look for a new opportunity to regain the belt.
