One of the most popular names in MMA today, Sean Strickland does not hide his admiration for the strength of Alex Poatán. In a recent statement published by Plínio Cruz, trainer of the current UFC light heavyweight champion (up to 93kg), the North American confessed the terror he feels at the thought of facing the Brazilian again.
“I'm not afraid of Alex, but the problem is that my chin will just waste away. I sleep. For me to knock Alex out, he has to do something really stupid. As if he had to do like what he did against Izzy (Israel adesanya). A chance to get free and knock him out. It’s almost impossible”, said the fighter.

Furthermore, Sean also reveals that he feels bad when he goes to train with Alex, as he always thinks it's tough and 'equal to equal'. However, if the two fighters faced each other again, he admits that just one blow would be enough to put him out.
That's one of the shitty things when I train with him because I feel like Alex and I seem to be evenly matched in kickboxing, as equals. But I know that no matter what I do, he will swallow it and if he just touched me it would be 'good night'”, he added.
Strickland's statement also relates to the confrontation between the two fighters at UFC 276, when Poatan ended the fight with a brutal knockout in the first round. Despite the resounding defeat, the rivalry between the athletes gave way to a relationship of respect and friendship. Currently, both train together and demonstrate a cordial relationship outside the octagon.
