Robert whittaker established himself as one of the best middleweights (up to 83,9 kg) in the world, a position crowned with the conquest of the belt in 2017. However, since the first defeat to Israel adesanya, at UFC 243, the Australian is looking to once again reach the sport's highest position, and a victory over Khamzat Shimaev would be the perfect scenario to achieve this goal.

Keeping in mind the opponent's skill, the former champion has intensified his training to triumph in the UFC 308, which takes place at the end of October.

“You can bet I’m training like an animal right now on the mats. I’m sweating and bleeding and leaving it all in preparation for this fight,” he said in an interview with the American podcast MMArcade.

Knocked out by the current champion, Dricus du Plessis, just over a year ago, Whittaker needed a big performance to convince Dana White and the 'matchmakers' from the UFC who deserves a rematch. Given this, the fighter assured that the experiences he has had throughout his career will make a difference.

“I don’t expect him to get tired or anything. I expect him to come out aggressive and be super scary in wrestling and be very strong. I just think I’ve been in these waters before. I know how to tread. I’m right there. I’m the best middleweight in the world. Beating him will prove that and I’m looking forward to it,” concluded the Australian, who is coming off wins over Paulo borrachinha e Ikram Aliskerov.

Khamzat Shimaev

Chimaev, in turn, debuted in the organization in 2020 and quickly became one of the most notable prospects in MMA. However, after several health problems and canceled fights, the Chechen seeks to maintain his undefeated record and finally get the long-awaited title fight.
