The recent declaration of Alex Poatán, 'nailing' a return to middleweight (up to 83,9 kg) after the next defense of the light heavyweight belt (up to 93 kg) against Khalil rountree, at UFC 307, in October, did not convince everyone. After Michael Bisping doubt the champion's plans, it was time for Chael Sonnen point out a 'bluff' in Brazilian speech.
In a recent edition of the 'Good Guy/Bad Guy' podcast, with Daniel Cormier, Sonnen pointed out two reasons why the plan Alex Poatán it wouldn't make sense.

“In this sport it is very clear that bigger is better. Heavyweights are better than everyone else. That is the perception. If you are going for a title and you already have the 93 kg, 84 kg is behind you. Not to mention that Dricus Du Plessis "He may have been amused by the idea that the guy who got knocked out by the guy he just finished is threatening to return to a division he once ran from. Come on, that's never going to happen," the former fighter said.
In the opinion of Chael Sonnen, case Alex Poatán really intend to face Dricus Du Plessis, the South African should move up to light heavyweight and not the other way around. The former fighter ended by stating that the Brazilian's attitude was a kind of protection for Adesanya.
“Alex wasn’t being honest. He’s really tough and he’ll fight anyone, but he can’t make 84 pounds. There’s nothing to gain by going through that kind of sacrifice to get back to a weight class you’ve already won at. If you want to fight Dricus, Dricus could move up to light heavyweight. The move here was the final nail in the coffin of his rivalry with Adesanya. It was a big brother move. It was to say, you couldn’t handle it.” Dricus Du Plessis, but your big brother is here for you. That was the real move and I think it worked,” he concluded.
