The victory of Steve Garcia about kyle nelson No. ufc vegas 97 last Saturday (7), won by technical knockout in the first round, is under suspicion. Nelson's wife, Claudia Turner, accuses her rival of applying illegal blows to the back of her husband's neck during the submission, and demands that the result of the fight be annulled.
In a post on social media, Turner shared a photo of the swelling on the back of Nelson's neck and criticized the performance of referee Mark Smith, who did not penalize Garcia for the alleged infraction.

“I'm proud of you, kyle nelson, and all his hard work, despite not being able to recover from an illegal elbow to the back of the head. The UFC, the referees and the commission do a fantastic job reminding the fighters that this is an illegal move, but now we have to move on. This should be a no-contest. Keep martial arts safe. Protect the fighters,” the wife said on Instagram.
The controversy generated a lot of repercussion on social media, with many MMA fans agreeing with Nelson's wife. Referee Mark Smith was criticized for alleged negligence, and some fans even called for his dismissal. The UFC, at the time of writing, had not commented on the case.
The Athletic Commission responsible for regulating the event has not yet commented on the case. Cancelling a fight after the end of the event is a rare and complex procedure, and the final decision will be up to the regulatory bodies.
