Living the worst phase of his career in terms of results, Israel adesanya recently suffered his first losing streak, losing title fights against Sean Strickland, in September of last year, and Dricus Du Plessis, in August of this year. As if the series of setbacks were not enough, the former middleweight champion (up to 83,9 kg) also lost his place in the top 15 of the UFC pound-for-pound ranking, which includes athletes from all male categories.
The latest ranking update, carried out in the early hours of Tuesday (10), does not include Israel adesanya among the 15 best athletes in the organization. The Nigerian was surpassed by the former bantamweight champion (up to 61,2 kg) aljamain sterling, which closes the list in 15th place.

This is the first time that Israel adesanya has been outside the pound-for-pound top 15 since winning the interim belt against Kelvin Gastelum in April 2019. The Nigerian has never topped the rankings, but he has already reached second place in 2022, behind only Alexander Volkanovsky, then featherweight champion (up to 65,7 kg).
