The rivalry between Khamzat Shimaev e Dricus Du Plessis became even more heated after the release of an audio recording in which the Swede directed homophobic insults at the UFC middleweight champion (up to 83,9 kg). In a private conversation, the Swede referred to the South African in a derogatory way by using homophobic terms and racist stereotypes. The UFC has not officially commented on the case.
“We have to get the belt back to the normal people, man. This gay guy who has the belt is not normal. This is the first time I’ve seen a gay African,” Chimaev said on his official ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) account.

The statements by Chimaev, who had already been exchanging provocations with Du Plessis on social media, generated a great repercussion and were widely condemned. The fighter has a fight scheduled against Robert whittaker No. UFC 306, an Abu Dhabi event taking place on October 26.
