The mystery regarding the future of Charles of the Bronx is over. Former lightweight champion (up to 70,3 kg), the Brazilian will face Michael chandler in revenge in UFC 309, which will take place on November 16th, at Madison Square Garden, in New York, United States. The two will be the co-main fight of the event, which will be disputed in five rounds. Charles of the Bronx e Michael chandler they face each other again about three and a half years after their first meeting, which took place in UFC 262, in May 2021, for the lightweight belt (up to 70,3 kg), which was vacant at the time, after the retirement of Khabib Nurmagomedov. On that occasion, the Brazilian knocked out the American at the beginning of the second round and became champion of the category.
Charles held the title for about a year, until he lost it to the scales after missing weight at the controversial weigh-in for the fight against Justin gaethje No. UFC 274, in May 2022.
