A defeat to Merab Dvalishvili in the main fight of UFC 306, last Saturday (14), and the consequent loss of the bantamweight belt (up to 61,2 kg) were a hard blow to the ambitions of Sean O'Malley, who planned to become the biggest star in world MMA. The former champion avoided making excuses to justify the defeat and promised to stay away from the octagon for a while.

Last Monday (16), in an edition of the podcast 'TimboSugarShow', Sean O'Malley repeated the speech of having 'over-promised and under-delivered', avoided making excuses regarding the result and admitted to having felt weaker than Merab Dvalishvili during the duel.

“I had the best weight cut, I felt good, no excuses. My mom said I didn’t look the same and asked me what was wrong. Nothing, I just got beat. Everyone asks me if something happened, that I looked different, but there are no excuses, nothing. I felt outmatched in strength. I knew what to do in certain positions, but he was stronger. I didn’t feel outmatched in skill or speed, just in strength. My conditioning was good,” analyzed the former champion.

Anyone hoping to see a quick return from Sean O'Malley after his defeat may be disappointed. That's because the former champion has stated that he intends to stay away from the octagon for up to a year.

“I probably won’t fight for nine or ten months, maybe a year. It’s going to take a while. People are going to have to watch the UFC without the ‘Sugar Show’ for a while,” he revealed.
