Michael Chandler says he still believes in Conor McGregor's return: 'It's nothing without MMA'

“I think (he’ll come back). Just look at his history. Conor McGregor He is nothing, nobody without the sport of Mixed Martial Arts. Without the platform of the UFC. Without the legacy that he created. I think he is romantic about that,” Chandler said.

The fighter also speculated on the reasons that may be behind McGregor's long hiatus, having been absent from the octagon since July 2021, when he fractured his left leg in a fight against Dustin poirier, at UFC 264.

“I believe his spirit loves the sport, but sometimes his body and his brain want other things. I’ve never walked a mile in that man’s shoes, and neither have you, so who are we to criticize him? But I believe he’ll be back, and when he does, I’ll be waiting. I might have the title by then,” said Iron, who could win the title fight if he wins against Charles of the Bronx.

With two wins and three losses in the UFC, the American was ready to face Conor McGregor for more than a year and a half.
