One of the biggest questions to be answered in the final months of 2024 in MMA is whether the fight against Stipe Miocic No. UFC 309 will be the last of Jon Jones as a professional. Longtime coach of the heavyweight champion (up to 120,2 kg), Brandon Gibson believes the answer is positive.

In a recent interview with 'From The Stands', Gibson commented on rumors about his retirement. Jon Jones and stated that his protégé had done enough throughout his career to choose the best moment to hang up his gloves.

“I think this is his last fight. It’s a dangerous game that doesn’t treat fighters getting older kindly. I always encourage all my fighters to stop early, to be able to choose when to stop. Jon, more than any other fighter, I believe has earned the right to be able to choose when to stop,” the coach said.

Brandon Gibson, however, does not believe that the imminent retirement of Jon Jones be a matter of urgent need. The coach ensures that the champion has firewood to burn for longer if he so wishes.

“I think he has more in the tank, I see his skills every week against high-level opponents, I think he’s better than he’s ever been. He’s become an incredible heavyweight. I think he can continue to face the best for a long time, but he’s also earned the stop if he chooses to do so,” he concluded.
