With just under a week left for the long-awaited UFC 307, Alex Poatán appears as a big favorite in bookmakers to defend the light heavyweight belt (up to 93 kg) against Khalil rountree Jr.. Former middleweight champion (up to 83,9 kg) and current Ultimate commentator, Michael Bisping, however, believes that the Brazilian could be surprised by the challenger.
In a video recently published on his official YouTube channel, Bisping analyzed the duel between Poatan and Rountree. Although he pointed out that the champion tends to have access to gaps demonstrated by the challenger on other occasions, the British fighter sees in the 'War Horse' the courage and experience needed to surprise the Brazilian in his main department: stand-up fighting.
"Anthony Smith was able to land a few straight right hands on Rountree. If Smith can land them, you have to think Pereira can. But if we dig a little deeper and look at other people he (Rountree) has beaten, there is one name that stands out and that name is none other than Gokhan Saki. When he faced Khalil rountree, he was knocked out in the first round. Khalil was a kickboxer. He has the confidence to go in there and say he's not going to take it down. He's going to stand up and try to beat Pereira at his own game,” he analyzed.
With Poatan and Rountree in the main fight, the UFC 307 takes place on October 5th, at the altitude of Salt Lake City, in Utah, in the United States. The event also features the fight for the women's bantamweight (up to 61,2 kg) belt between the champion Rachel Pennington and the former champion Julianna Pena.
