Challenged by Diego Lopes, Alexander Volkanovski rejects fight with Brazilian: 'I will fight for the title'

Former featherweight champion Volkanovski commented on the challenge made by Diego Lopes, but assured that he will only fight for the belt

Former champion and considered one of the greatest featherweights (up to 65,7 kg) of all time, Alexander Volkanovsky is one of the preferred targets of Diego lopes for the next fight. The interest, however, is not exactly reciprocal.

In a recent interview with 'Submission Radio', the Australian commented on the recent challenge made by the Brazilian, targeting the UFC 310, in December. Volkanovski assured, however, that his next fight will necessarily be for the featherweight belt.

“We have already spoken to the UFC. Obviously I will fight for the title next. For me to fight with Diego lopes "Then something would have to have happened to one of the guys in the title fight, either an injury, or a change of category and the creation of an interim belt or something like that. Obviously I'm not afraid of anyone, but I'm going to fight for the belt and that's it," replied the former champion.

Alexander Volkanovsky was featherweight champion between December 2019 and February 2024, with five belt defenses in the period, before being dethroned by Ilia Topuria No. UFC 298. The Australian's plan is to wait to face the winner of the next title fight in the category, between Ilia Topuria e Max Holloway, in the main fight of the UFC 308, on October 26, in Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates.
