“It was always my dream to be UFC champion, to be in the UFC, to make my career and my history within the UFC. That's why I came back to be the champion,” declared the fighter.

Confident in the 'weight' of his name and determined to prove he can still compete at the highest level, the former featherweight champion (up to 65,7 kg) and nominated for Ultimate Hall of Fame, José Aldo, believes that a victory in the UFC 307 will put him very close to a new fight for the belt.

“Because of who I am, regardless of ranking or opponent, I will always be a title contender. But I think that, first of all, I have to win my fight and, yes, by winning my fight, we are very close to a title fight,” Aldo added.

Thinking about the next step, the Brazilian also expressed interest in a possible elimination fight for the title against Sean O'Malley, former bantamweight champion (up to 61,2 kg), and highlighted the relevance of this duel for the division.

“If I fight Merab for the title, I would be very happy, but with O'Malley it's different. Today, in the category, I don't see anyone at the same weight as me, except him. It would be two big names in the division having a great fight. It would be great.”

However, before thinking about O'Malley, Aldo needs to go through mario bautista. The 31-year-old American is on the rise, with six consecutive victories, and is looking to break into the top 10 in the category to also get closer to a title shot.
