“I’m used to fighting often. In Brazil, in the past, you could fight kickboxing as an amateur or professional. In fact, in one year, I fought 11 times, and that was to earn practically nothing. Now, to earn what I earn, I want to stay active,” said Poatan.
About to have his tenth fight in less than three years in the UFC, the Brazilian fighter emphasized the importance of maintaining a constant rhythm.
“If you haven’t fought for a long time and you come back, you come back a little out of rhythm. I think that, with this rhythm, for me, it’s much better,” concluded the light heavyweight champion (up to 93 kg).
Poatan's trajectory in the UFC
Alex Poatán debuted in the UFC in November 2021, when he won Andreas Michailidis by knockout. A year later, he fought for the middleweight belt (83,9 kg) against his biggest rival in his career, Israel adesanya, beating Bruno Silva and Sean Strickland on the way.
After that, in a rematch with the Nigerian, Alex ended up suffering his first and only defeat in the organization, being knocked out in the second round. He then won the title by knocking out Jiri Prochazka and defended the title twice, against Jamahal hill and again against Prochazka.
