José Aldo is experiencing a crucial moment in his career. After the defeat to Mario Bautista No. UFC 307, in a split decision, the former featherweight champion (up to 65,7 kg) lost a position in the ranking and saw his dream of a new chance at the bantamweight title (up to 61,2 kg) become more distant. Now, at 38 years old, the 'King of Rio' has some options to consider.
New race to the title
José Aldo has a history of overcoming obstacles in MMA. After losing the belt to Conor McGregor in just 13 seconds, many thought his career was in decline. However, the man from Manaus faced ups and downs, dropped down to bantamweight and even fought for the title against Petr yan, in addition to having achieved a sequence of three victories.

The fact that the UFC president, Dana White, having questioned the referees after the recent defeat, it could be a good sign and help him get back on the path to the title, repeating the feat of Glover Teixeira, who was light heavyweight champion (up to 93 kg) at an advanced age.
'Compatible fights'
After almost two years away from the octagon, the choice of Jonathan martinez as an opponent in Aldo's return raised questions. Martinez, younger and on a six-fight winning streak, was dominated by Aldo, who won by unanimous decision.
With this victory, there was speculation that the 'King of Rio' could face a fighter at the top of the category. However, the choice of mario bautista, a younger and rising opponent, did not please the Brazilian's fans. Now, perhaps it is time to consider fights against opponents who are more in line with his age and trajectory. Names like Henry Cejudo, Dominick Cruz e cody garbrandt may be viable options.
Fresh air
Before the fight against Jonathan martinez at UFC Rio, rumors emerged that this could be Aldo's last fight in the UFC. In a recent interview with 'ESPN MMA', the former champion mentioned having received more advantageous offers outside of the UFC, but decided to stay in the organization, as he intended to be champion.
“It has always been my dream to be UFC champion. […] I was offered bigger fights, for the title, with much more money, practically triple what the UFC is offering me, but no. I was born here,” said the fighter.
Now, stripped of the title and already nominated for the UFC Hall of Fame, José Aldo can explore new opportunities in other MMA events or in boxing.
