Conor McGregor once again he is the target of controversy… this time in the world of football! The Irishman's visit to the Arsenal squad a week ago, in London, had a negative impact on the English club. It even led to an internal investigation after The Notorious' acts at the Emirates Stadium.

After the Gunners' 2-0 victory over PSG in the second round of the Champions League, in addition to kicking the ball around with some athletes, the UFC legend scared striker Bukayo Saka in a simulated fight. McGregor, who is a Manchester United fan, kicked and kneed the Arsenal player and then grabbed him as if he was going to throw him to the ground. The English athlete, aware of the danger, quickly moved away. Laughing at the situation, he gestured to end the fight and asked 'Be careful'. The Notorious posted the image and others from his visit on his social media. (see video below)

McGregor was also spotted on social media running around the pitch holding an Arsenal shirt and a bottle of his own Irish whiskey. However, it was the 'fight' with Saka, one of the club's most valuable players, that most worried manager Mikel Arteta. The English club have vowed to avoid repeating bizarre scenes like this involving their players and have begun investigating how The Notorious managed to get onto the pitch.

Investigations

Arsenal's investigations showed that McGregor and his entourage were provided with last-minute VIP tickets through a third company, 1 Access, The company provides corporate packages and has a box at the Emirates where celebrities are regularly entertained. The area is close to where the players usually gather after the match, and it was there that the Irishman met some of the players. The fighter accompanied the players through the tunnel onto the pitch and was initially not challenged by security.

The English club are looking at a deal whereby players could mingle with corporate guests after the match. Arsenal are also keen to distance themselves from the 'McGregor brand', given the number of controversial incidents the 36-year-old has been involved in. The Notorious was convicted of assault in 2019 after punching a man in a Dublin pub, and also injured a mascot during an alleged mock fight on the court of NBA team Miami Heat in 2023.

Conor McGregor
