Close to hanging up the gloves, Dustin poirier, which lost to Justin gaethje in his chance to win the Ultimate 'BMF' title, he wants to have a new opportunity to buckle the belt of 'toughest guy in the UFC'.
In a recent conversation with the 'MMA Today', Poirier revealed that his next fight will be the last of his career. Without mentioning a date or opponent, the former lightweight champion (up to 70,3 kg) suggested a fight in his hometown to close his cycle as an athlete.

“Realistically, I probably have five or six fights left. But I’m not going to do that to my body. I definitely want to do one, especially if there’s a possibility of fighting back home in Louisiana. That’s where I’d like to hang up the gloves,” Dustin clarified.
While Poirier has no information on when his last time inside the octagon will be, the fighter has an idea of what his dream farewell would be like: a one-night tournament, where the winner would take home the 'BMF' belt.
“That excites me because this kind of thing is for warriors. This is like the old days of Pride or Grand Prix. This is a real BMF. If you can fight in a tournament in one night, against multiple opponents, that’s the definition of BMF. That would be the farewell fight. If they put this on and it was a tournament in one night, that would be the final fight,” suggested the American.
Dana White's Green Light
While the UFC hasn't held a single-night tournament since UFC 23 in 1999, UFC president Dana White, who typically rejects the idea of tournaments, had a positive reaction when asked about the proposal.
“It sounds fun. I never thought about it, but yeah, I love the idea,” Dana said during a post-fight press conference for Dana White's Contender Series.
