Alex Poatán retained his light heavyweight title (up to 93kg) by defeating Khalil rountree Jr. no UFC 307 last Saturday (5). Despite the victory, the Brazilian fighter was the target of criticism from Jake Paul, who reaffirmed that he would beat him in a boxing match.
Known for his provocations in the fighting world, Jake Paul stated that despite the loss, Khalil exposed weaknesses in Poatan's game, especially regarding resistance to body shots and low striking output.
“I’m sure I would beat Alex. Rountree has shown that he doesn’t have a high volume of punches and doesn’t like to take body shots. In MMA, Pereira (Poatan) would rip my head off, but boxing is a completely different sport, with a different pace and style,” Jake said in an interview with Adin Ross.
The YouTuber, who recently defeated Mike Perry by knockout, is confident he could overcome Alex in the boxing ring. He pointed out that, despite the Brazilian being a great fighter, the fight against Rountree revealed gaps in his defense.
“He has flaws. Rountree rocked him a few times with body shots, but he didn’t follow through. So if this fight showed me anything, it’s that I could beat Pereira in boxing, and I still want that to happen,” he concluded.
Jake Paul insists on facing Alex Poatan in boxing
While Jake Paul prepares to face the boxing legend Mike Tyson in November, Alex Poatán remains under contract with the UFC, which makes a fight between the two unlikely at the moment. However, the YouTuber believes that if the current champion manages to get out of his UFC contract, as he did Nate diaz, a fight between them could be negotiated.
UFC President Dana White criticized the influencer for drawing attention to himself by challenging MMA fighters, and also stated that a fight between the two would be unlikely to be sanctioned by an athletic commission.
