mario bautista believes he is not solely to blame for the lackluster fight against José Aldo No. UFC 307. For him, the Brazilian also has his share of blame for not being able to get out of the grid when he was being pressured.

“I thought he was going to get out because it takes a little bit of energy. There were points where I felt like – yes, he was defending the takedown, and maybe he could have circled, but he kind of chose to stay there and kind of wait a little bit. Yes, I was holding him up against the fence, but at the same time, I think he had opportunities to circle. It’s just that he chose not to do that,” Bautista told MMA JunkieRadio.

Bautista defeated Aldo by split decision in the main card last Saturday (5) in Salt Lake City, USA. The American's stance, accused of stalling in the fight, was harshly criticized, even by Dana White. Bautista defended himself by claiming that the bantamweight champion (up to 61,2 kg.) Merab Dvalishvili Dvalishvili did the same thing when he fought Aldo. Dvalishvili went 0-16 in his takedown attempts against Aldo, but won the fight by unanimous decision.

“Merab did the same thing. He probably held him against the fence longer than I did, and now look at him. He’s the champion. If we’re really talking about Aldo, he almost did something similar against ‘Chito’ (Marlon Vera). He started losing in that first round, and then he takes Chito down and is on his back for the whole second round and the third round, and nobody gave Aldo a f*ck about it. Even me, I'm not going to give Aldo a f*ck. It's more about Chito. 'Oh, Chito can't get this guy off his back.' So there you have it: It's like a little double standard for some of these Hall of Famers and fan favorites," Bautista added.

Bautista said he was surprised Aldo didn't try to break free when his back was against the fence.

“I just wanted him to keep working. I just wanted him to get out of the clinch, use that energy to get out and then just stick with him. Just keep him working, working. I really didn’t think he would, I don’t know, just stay on the wall?” he concluded.
