After the victory of Alex Poatán No. UFC 307, in Salt Lake City (USA), rumors grew about a fight against Tom aspinall in the heavyweight division (up to 120,2 kg), where the Brazilian would seek the unprecedented feat of being champion in three UFC categories. Chael Sonnen believes in the chances of the light heavyweight champion (up to 93 kg).
Although he recognizes the physical advantages that the Englishman may have against Poatan, his former rival Anderson Silva expressed, through his YouTube channel, that he is not convinced of Aspinall's favoritism and that the Brazilian has something special.

“I can’t guarantee that the younger, bigger Tom would win. There’s something special about Alex, and I can’t quite put my finger on it. But I don’t know if Tom has the skills to just go out and take him down, so maybe we’ll have to leave that aside,” said the former fighter and now commentator.
While Aspinall's grappling should pose problems for Poatan in a potential matchup, Sonnen is unsure whether he would be successful in taking the Brazilian to the ground, which would force him to face the former Glory champion, who has 10 knockouts in 12 MMA wins, on the feet.
“I think Alex would have a really hard time getting up because of his size, but to get him in there, Tom will probably want to trade. He’ll probably have a little bit of an ego, like everyone else, saying, ‘Let me show you all,’ and that might work for him. But it could also be a very dangerous proposition,” Chael suggested.
Currently, Alex Poatán there is no fight scheduled, while Tom aspinall is scheduled as a reserve in the heavyweight title fight between the champion Jon Jones and former champion Stipe Miocic, which will be the main fight of the UFC 309 on November 16, at Madison Square Garden, in New York (USA).
