It seems that fate almost brought MMA fans a fourth showdown between Conor McGregor e Dustin poirier. However, this clash would be outside the octagon. According to 'Diamante', the two almost met at a media event in Las Vegas earlier this month. According to the American, his agent prevented the two fighters from crossing paths.

“My agent was walking behind me and grabbed me. Conor (McGregor) might have seen me, I don’t know. I didn’t see him. My agent grabbed my shoulders and said, ‘This way, to the right, to the right.’ And as soon as we got rid of everybody, he said, ‘Man, we almost had a big problem,’” he said. Dustin poirier in an interview with Canadian journalist Ariel Helwani this Tuesday (15).
Regarding what could have happened if the two rivals had met, the American stated the real possibility of the athletes coming to blows.
“We have such a long history and he said some mean things. Have you ever watched ‘Family Guy?’ You know when Peter and the chicken meet? They have this crazy fight, they fall down a hill, they fight for an hour. That’s what would have happened. Yeah, for sure. If we had made eye contact, if our eyes had met, it probably would have been bad,” Poirier said.
Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier
The history involving McGregor and Poirier is old. The two faced each other for the first time at UFC 178, in September 2014, in a duel marked by intense exchanges of barbs. At the time, still in the featherweight category (up to 65,7 kg), the Irishman won quickly, with a knockout in the first round. Later, McGregor would become the biggest name in the sport by dethroning José Aldo next year.

In January 2021, the two fought for the second time, this time as lightweights (up to 70,3 kg). Poirier returned the favor, winning by knockout in the second round. A few months later, the American defeated his rival again. However, the triumph came after McGregor fractured his left leg. Since then, the Irishman has not returned to the sport.
