One of the biggest names in the history of MMA, Jon Jones exposed the collateral damage of his career in the octagon. In conversation with training partners, the UFC heavyweight champion (up to 120,2 kg) revealed a history of concussions and chronic headaches, direct consequences of the countless impacts suffered over more than a decade of fighting.

“Throughout my 20s, I would come home with headaches all the time, concussions. Now when that happens, I get really irritated and feel like I did something wrong,” Jones confessed.

The champion also reported having seen first-hand the physical deterioration of other fighters, who lost basic skills such as stopping a jab due to the numerous concussions suffered throughout their careers. The gradual loss of the ability to react to blows and the difficulty in seeing the movements of opponents are clear signs that the brain, even of the most resilient, is not immune to the damage caused by impacts.
