The Brazilian landed a series of blows to his opponent's waistline, which almost resulted in anthony hernandez the knockout at the beginning of the fight. The American told what went through his head when he was hit.
In the post-fight press conference, Hernandez did not hide the toughness of the fight against Michel and was honest when commenting on the impact of the Brazilian's blows. “That shit hurt. I was like, ‘Oh, f*** this guy.’ But then I was like, ‘Okay, I’m just not going to let him hit me in the body.’ I knew he hit hard, but I didn’t think he was going to hit me hard enough to knock me out. So that’s it, you know? It’s a fight. It happens. You wipe your tears away, get up and keep fighting,” said the American.
The Brazilian was taken to 'deep waters'
Despite dominating the Brazilian, Hernandez praised Michel's physical strength and endurance and highlighted the effectiveness of the strategy outlined by his team. The American revealed that, despite the difficulties in the clinch and in the takedown attempts, he remained calm to wear down his opponent according to the plan.
“That guy was strong. You had to feel it. I was trying to grab his legs, and he had his underhooks locked in. He would just lift me up. But that’s exactly what we expected. I have the best trainers in the world. They told me everything he was going to do and what to expect, where we were going to go. It was just a matter of staying calm, trusting the process and taking him to deeper water than he’s ever been and drowning him there,” Fluffy revealed.
With victory, anthony hernandez reached 13 career triumphs, his sixth in a row in the UFC. The American is currently ranked 13th in the middleweight rankings (up to 83,9 kg). Michael Pereira breaks his eight-fight winning streak in the Ultimate, suffering his third setback in the organization.
