It's been almost a month since Renato Moicano ran over the Frenchman Benoit Saint-Denis in the main fight of UFC Paris. But it seems that this episode has not yet left his head. Dan Hooker. The New Zealand fighter decided to take a jab at the Brazilian, downplaying his victory in France.
During an interview with journalist 'Ariel Helwani' on Tuesday (22), Hooker accused the Brazilian of having run away from the opportunity of a fight against him that would take place in Perth, Australia. He claimed that Moicano used as an excuse the high taxes he would have to pay for a fight in the Oceania country, but accepted to fight Benoit in Paris, which has the same taxes, according to the New Zealander. He also added that the Brazilian looked for an easier way, but ended up losing out, since he remains in 11th place in the lightweight ranking (up to 70,3 kg).
“He could have fought me in Perth. His excuse was taxes… He paid the exact amount of taxes he would have paid in Perth. He took an easier fight. A fight he thought he could get away with and it didn’t work out for him. He won and went nowhere,” Hooker said.

In France, Moicano punished Saint-Denis, who was left disfigured. A takedown achieved by the Brazilian in the early stages of the fight paved the way for a barrage of elbows that left deep wounds on the Frenchman's face, who finished the first round with both eyes practically closed. Benoit was brave and had a good second round, but after the medical team noticed that he could not see out of his right eye, the referee stopped the fight and declared Moicano's victory by technical knockout. Despite the result, the Brazilian remained in 11th place in the rankings.
On the other hand, Hooker, who is ranked 6th, ended up facing Mateusz gamrot in place of Moicano, in Australia. The New Zealander won by split decision of the judges.
