Magomed Ankalayev is under pressure. One of the main names in the UFC's light heavyweight division (up to 93kg) revealed in an interview at the 'media day' that Dana White, president of the organization, imposed a clear condition for him to dispute the belt against Alex Poatán: a good fight.

“Dana White told me that my fight has to be very good, that I have to show myself well. Only then will I have a chance to fight for the title,” said Ankalaev.

The UFC president's statement puts extra pressure on Ankalaev's shoulders. Despite being seen as one of the top contenders for the title, the Russian has yet to fully convince Dana White and needs a flawless performance to secure the opportunity to face Poatan.

It is worth remembering that Ankalaev already had a chance to win the belt, but ended up in a draw against Jan Blachowicz. Since then, the Russian has been building a solid record, with important victories over names such as Johnny Walker. However, the lack of finishes in his career is still a question mark for many fans and experts.

In its turn, Alex Poatán is recovering from injuries and should only return to the octagon in March 2025. The Brazilian has been on a frenetic streak and has played on three occasions this season, with victories over Jamahal hill, Jiri Prochazka e Khalil rountree.
