Considered by many to be the main threat to Alex Poatán in the light heavyweight division (up to 93 kg), Magomed Ankalayev wasted no time and, still in the octagon after the victory over Aleksandar rakic on the main card of UFC 308, last Saturday (26), told the champion to 'stop running'. Hours later, at the post-fight press conference, the Russian maintained his speech, but ruled out facing the Brazilian during Ramadan, which takes place in March.
“Come on. Alex, stop running from me. I heard he wants to fight during Ramadan. We will not fight during Ramadan. Before or after Ramadan, if he says yes, we will fight him,” Ankalaev said during the press conference.

Another old speech repeated by Magomed Ankalayev during the press conference was that Alex Poatán would be being protected by the UFC to continue with the light heavyweight belt.
“I think he’s being protected. I don’t know why the UFC is doing this, but I think they’re protecting him. We know he’s an exciting fighter. We know he fights on his feet and he’s a great striker, so I think they’re saving him, protecting him,” he accused.
Finally, Ankalaev continued to show confidence that he can beat Poatan both standing and on the ground. The Russian also assured that he has already faced tougher opponents than the Brazilian in the light heavyweight category.
“It’s MMA, so of course I can trade with him. I can grapple with him as well. I really don’t think it would be that difficult of a fight for me. I think I’ve had tougher fights in the division,” he concluded.
