Magomed Ankalayev entered the Octagon UFC 308 knowing that he needed to win and convince. The Russian revealed before the event last Saturday (26) that Dana White had charged him a 'good fight' to secure the chance to dispute the light heavyweight title (up to 93kg.) with the current champion, Alex Poatán. However, his victory before Aleksandar rakic by unanimous decision of the judges, was one of the less interesting confrontations of the event in Abu Dhabi.

Jamahal hill knows this. The former champion of the category took to social media to criticize Ankalaev's performance. During an analysis on YouTube, Hill even exposed that the Russian's victory in UFC 308 was not enough to give him a chance to challenge Poatan in early 2025.

“That fight was boring. It showed a lack of weapons. Rakic showed a lack of fight IQ. Giving someone a title shot with a performance like that… obviously he has the resume and deserves the title shot, but that performance was terrible and I know (the UFC) doesn’t like him, so you never know,” he said.

But the Russian didn't keep quiet. Ankalaev quickly responded on 'X' (formerly Twitter), mocking Hill's knockout of Poatan in UFC 300.

So far, neither Dana White nor the matchmakers – responsible for the matchmaking of the fights – have spoken out about the plans for Alex Poatán. The Brazilian has already revealed that he should return to the UFC routine in the second half of January 2025.
