Referee of the latest edition of the Dala Fighting Championship event, held in Astana, Kazakhstan, last Saturday (2), Bauarzhan Zhumanov put a fighter at serious risk by not fulfilling the main duty of his job: preserving the physical integrity of the athletes. Zhumanov did not realize that the Indian athlete Abhilash Raut had 'faded out' with a submission and had to rely on the good perception of the home athlete Zhuman Zhumabekov to avoid what could have been a tragedy.

The controversy began in the first round. Zhumabekov landed a powerful takedown on Raut, who attempted a guillotine. From above, the Kazakh athlete managed to catch his opponent in a 'Von Flue Choke', a position in which the shoulder presses the opponent's neck, and quickly knocked out the Indian, who remained with his eyes open.

Unaware of Raut's loss of consciousness, referee Zhumanov asked Zhumabekov to remain active on the ground. It was the Kazakh athlete himself who noticed and alerted the referee to end the fight, avoiding further problems.
