UFC cameraman still hasn't forgotten Poatan's brutal knockout in Jamahal hill / Reproduction Instagram
The year 2024 was, to say the least, blessed for Alex Poatán. There were three defenses of the light heavyweight belt (up to 93 kg), with three knockouts against renowned UFC fighters: Jamahal hill, Jiri Prochazka and the last of them, in October, Khalil rountree. However, one of these knockouts is immortalized in the memory of a person who followed it all very closely: cameraman Alex Merriman.

Watching UFC fights 'glued to the fence' is routine for Merriman. However, the cameraman recently posted a video on his Instagram profile where he appears to be reacting with astonishment to the brutal knockout applied by Poatan in Jamahal hill, which happened in UFC 300, on April 13. The video went viral on the internet and reached almost a million likes. Even months later, that moment remains unforgettable for Merriman.
“Still in shock!!! It’s easy to forget how close I am to the action – until something insane happens just feet from my face. Staying focused on the scene while living in the moment? Always a challenge. It wasn’t just @alexpoatanpereira’s knockout that blew me away, but how he shrugged off a low blow and delivered like it was nothing, ultimately defending his light heavyweight title #UFC 300 went into the books,” Merriman wrote in his post. Jon Anik, UFC sportscaster and commentator for ESPN and Pay Per View, agreed with Alex Merriman. He responded to the cameraman's post by writing just one word: 'Yes.'
