Last numbered event of 2024, the UFC 310 suffered a severe blow with the injury of Belal Muhammad |, who would defend the welterweight belt (up to 77,1 kg) against Shavkat Rakhmonov. While no solution has been officially presented, another big name in the category claims to have offered to fill the gap left by the champion.
In a recent appearance on the 'Submission Radio' podcast, Colby covington, former interim champion and currently ranked fifth in the category, said he had contacted Ultimate to replace Belal Muhammad | and face Shavkat Rakhmonov at the event on December 7th, in Las Vegas, United States.

“I offered to replace Belal. I told the UFC I was willing to take the fight. They know they can call me a week in advance and I’ll accept. I would love to save the event and put on a good show for the fans. They pay their hard-earned money for mega fights, they need a mega fight and this wasn’t a mega fight. They need someone who will fill the seats and entertain the crowd. So I was excited. I wanted the fight and I asked for it, but I think they have other plans,” lamented 'Chaos'.
Chosen as the first challenger for the belt Belal Muhammad |, Shavkat Rakhmonov is undefeated in his career with 18 victories, all on the fast track. Despite the frightening record, Colby covington believes that the Kazakh would be easy prey in a possible duel.
“I can get over him and pressure him and he’s not going to like my pressure. He doesn’t do very well with lefties. We saw how he did with the kid on the bus. Geoff neal. It was a very competitive fight. He hasn’t faced a big challenger yet. He’s faced some gatekeepers in the division, guys close to the top 10, but he’s never faced a champion like me who goes after him for five rounds in a row. I’m good with him, I don’t see anything special. He has good submissions, but I can control him with wrestling. I think I would beat him easily. It’s a fight I’ll win in the future, whether he wins or loses in December,” he concluded.
