It may take a while until Alexa grasso return to the UFC octagon. The former women's strawweight champion (up to 52,1 kg) revealed this Monday (11) on her official Instagram account that she broke her right leg during training.

Currently ranked first in the UFC, the Mexican athlete shared a photo using crutches and an orthopedic boot, as well as publishing a text about overcoming obstacles in English.

“When life knocks you down, it’s because you’re ready to be rebuilt differently. Every piece of you that feels broken is a part that will find a new place, a new purpose, a new meaning. Trust that the cracks are where the light shines through. And sometimes, in our brokenness, we find our greatest wholeness. We find the courage to rebuild, to reimagine, to redefine what it means to be strong. You’re not broken; you’re transforming,” Grasso shared. (see below)

Alexa Grasso in the UFC

After dethroning Valentina Shevchenko and become strawweight champion in a surprising finish at UFC 285 , Grasso fought Shevchenko twice more. The Mexican retained her title in a split draw in the first rematch in Night UFC, in September 2023. After coaching Season 32 of “The Ultimate Fighter,” the duo completed their trilogy last September on UFC 306 from the Sphere in Las Vegas, but this time the Kyrgyz athlete got her revenge with a dominant decision victory to reclaim the title.

Grasso was in the sights of two other fighters who have their eyes on Shevchenko's belt: Manon Fiorot e Erin Blanchfield, ranked second and third, respectively. But it looks like the Mexican will be out of the target and the octagon for a while.
