This Friday (15), the fighting world will stop to watch the return of Mike Tyson against Jake Paul, broadcast globally on Netflix. After just over a year without fighting, Whindersson Nunes will be one of the fights that precede the duel between the former champion and the YouTuber. The comedian, who is making his professional boxing debut against one of the top Indian boxers, used his visibility to direct the spotlight to little-known Brazilian talents.

When commenting on his participation in the event, in the open training session held this Wednesday (12), Whindersson expressed joy at the opportunity to fight on an international stage, but also revealed sadness when reflecting on the lack of visibility faced by many Brazilian athletes, especially in boxing.

“I feel very happy for the opportunity and I feel sad knowing that there are many athletes who are better than me and should be at an event like this. But the visibility of the sport, especially boxing in Brazil, is a little low, and I really wanted names like Bia Ferreira and Hebert Conceição to be here, as well as several people I know who deserve to be here.”

Furthermore, Whindersson highlighted the difficulties faced by athletes to achieve success and encouraged those who pursue their dreams. He also promised to use his visibility to ask for support for Brazilian fighters whenever he has the opportunity.

“For everyone who knows that the life of an athlete is very difficult, it is very difficult to get anywhere. You can get there! And whatever I can do, when I have the microphone, I can ask for help from Brazilian athletes,” concluded the comedian.

Neeraj Goyat, Whindersson's opponent next Friday, has 18 wins and only four losses on his record. The boxer was the Indian boxing champion in 2017 and, in the same year, won the “Honorary Boxer of the Year” award from WBC Asia.
