“Let me start this post by saying that I am doing well. I have been through much worse. I hope everyone enjoyed the show on Saturday. What an amazing way to go out! I started this journey battling at local bowling alleys and ended it selling out Madison Square Garden. It really doesn’t get any better than that.” he began the post.

“Sorry I didn’t catch the W, but you can’t have them all. Sometimes it’s just not your night, that’s the nature of the beast. You can’t plan a perfect ending in this sport, but I think the perfect ending is having been lucky enough to do it. You all gave me so much, and I hope I made you all proud. Croatia and Cleveland Ohio especially. I felt you all with me in every battle.” he wrote.

Afterwards, Miocic thanked his teammates, family and finally made sure to thank his fans. The now former athlete ended the post in a good-humoured tone.

“I’m not going anywhere. I’m excited to start some new projects, bring the podcast back, end all my fights, and share my reality with you guys!” Until my next fight… just kidding, just kidding! Eternally grateful. It’s been quite a journey!” he concluded.

A legacy of weight… heavy

At 43, Stipe Miocic produced a symbolic act when he put his gloves down 'on the canvas' in an announcement of his retirement from the world of fighting, ending a career of victories and records. The American of Croatian descent left the sport as the record holder for belt defenses in the UFC heavyweight division, with four defenses, three of which were consecutive. The fighter, who for many is the greatest heavyweight in history, built a record of 20 wins and five losses.
