The fight between Bo Nickal and Paul Craig at UFC 309, held last Saturday (16) at Madison Square Garden, did not meet the expectations of the audience present. The three-time NCAA champion, who even attracted Donald Trump to watch itHe opted for a different strategy: the fighter didn't use his grappling, which is his strong point, and fought entirely standing up. The choice didn't please the UFC commentators, especially Daniel Cormier.

In an interview with Ariel Helwani, Nickal admitted that, while watching the fight, he felt the commentators downplayed his victory. The fighter expressed disappointment with Daniel Cormier's words, who suggested he wasn't ready to face Khamzat Chimaev.

“When I watched the fight again, one thing that was a little disappointing was the commentary and hearing how they were viewing the fight. It made me feel like they didn’t really know what was going on. Anybody I’ve talked to, people I trust and who are honest with me, they’ve been like, ‘Man, you just crushed that guy, total dominance, it was a flawless win.’ I heard things like ‘DC’ saying, ‘Oh, he’s not ready for Khamzat,’ I think he was trying to, I don’t know, maybe put me in my place. It was weird to hear that,” Nickal said.

Although upset by the negative comments about his performance, Bo Nickal said that people close to him were very pleased with the victory and the outcome of the fight. For him, the opinion of these people is what really matters.

“I feel like the people I know, who are in my corner and give me honest and genuine feedback, are very happy with the win. I was very happy with the win, so that’s what really matters at the end of the day. But it was a little disappointing to hear those comments from people I respect a lot,” concluded the undefeated fighter.

With his victory over Paul Craig at UFC 309, Bo Nickal achieved his seventh career win, his fourth in the UFC. At 28 years old, the American is considered one of the most prominent stars in wrestling and is a three-time NCAA champion.
