After more than a decade, the UFC returns to Macau, China, in an event that starts at 5 am (Brasília time) this Saturday (23). Included in one of the fights on the main card, the New Zealander Carlos Ulberg, who has fought seven times for the UFC, revealed that he believes he is close to taking the gold from none other than Alex Poatán.
Poatan has already defended the light heavyweight belt (up to 93kg) three times this year, against Jamahal hill, Jiri Prochazka e Khalil rountree, respectively. Many expect a clash between the current champion and Magomed Ankalayev sometime in 2025. That is if the Brazilian doesn't move up to the heavyweight category (up to 120,2 kg), where he could face Tom aspinall or even the dreaded Jon Jones.

Of the seven fights he had for the UFC, Carlos Ulberg He only lost his debut. After the setback, the organization won six straight games. This Saturday, he is looking for his seventh consecutive victory against the veteran. Volkan oezdemir. Ulberg believes he is on the right track to fight for the gold in Poatan.
“I know it’s going to happen, it’s in due time. My time is going to come and I know it’s not far away. So this fight here is no different. He’s an experienced fighter. I get a good win over Oezdemir, that catapults me high anyway. So in this division, at any time, you can get called up for the title,” Ulberg told UFC News.
The team fighter City Kickboxing believes he will have accumulated enough experience both in the gym and inside the octagon to become a credible threat to whoever is the champion when his turn comes to challenge.
“Well, I mean, all it is is that I have confidence in myself because of all the hard training I’ve done over the years. I knew this time would come and it’s here now. It’s going to present itself sooner than it ever has before. So, yeah, I feel prepared for anything. At this point, we’re in the top 10. So, we have experienced fighters. I think I was ready for it anyway,” he concluded.
Carlos Ulberg is tenth in the light heavyweight rankings, while his opponent in Macau, Volkan oezdemir, is the eighth.
