The future of the UFC's heavyweight division (up to 120,2 lbs.) has been a hot topic of discussion in the MMA community lately, especially after Jon Jones defend the belt for the first time against the former champion Stipe Miocic.
Leader of 'Xtreme Couture' and main trainer of Francis Ngannou, Eric Nicksick continues to assure that his pupil would represent the biggest threat to Jones' reign. However, knowing that the duel is impossible, the coach sees in Tom aspinall his main bet to dethrone 'Bones' in the UFC and admits that he has been 'exchanging ideas' with the British regarding the duel.

“The toughest fight would be with Francis Ngannou. It's a bad discussion because there's nothing we can do about it now. The toughest fight that makes sense is with Tom aspinall, because they are in the same organization. His (Aspinall) movement and footwork, those were the things that stood out the most when I was working with Tom. His ability to switch bases at heavyweight. Also, he is very intelligent and understands the game. He understands that he is at heavyweight, where at any moment someone can turn his lights out. He is constantly trying to push his best skills against his opponents' worst,” Nicksick praised.
In addition to highlighting the positive points of Tom aspinall, Nicksick also pointed out what the Brit would have to avoid to be successful in a possible duel against Jon Jones.
“You can’t stay in his range and let him charm you. You can’t let him hold your hands and dictate the pace. You have to be hyper-aggressive in your stances and I think that’s what Tom needs to do in this fight,” he concluded.
