Despite the victory in UFC 309, BoNickal did not live up to expectations with his performance against Paul Craig. The three-time NCAA champion ignored his wrestling repertoire, didn't attempt any takedowns, had a less than exciting match and received negative comments during the broadcast, especially from Daniel Cormier.
Recently, the fighter said that when watching the fight he was bothered by 'DC's' comments directed at his performance. Cormier, in a video published on his YouTube channel, made a point of apologizing.

"BoNickal “Bo is a little upset about the comments during the fight last week. It surprised me a little bit because I like Bo and I believe that at some point he will be a champion. The main thing I wanted to say in this fight is, let’s not rush him into fights against people with much more experience,” Cormier said.
Despite the criticism, Cormier clarifies that he actually thought Nickal fought well, but that there is still room for improvement. The former champion says he believes in Nickal's potential, but suggests that the youngster needs more time to evolve before facing more experienced opponents.
“You know what’s crazy? After this weekend, right after the fight, people were calling me and saying I was a ‘defender’ of Bo. I was almost making excuses for his performance. I thought he did really well. I have no problem with him.” BoNickal. I think he'll be fine. I have no problem with his performance. I thought he fought very well, but there's room for improvement," concluded the Olympic medalist.
With the victory over Paul Craig, at UFC 309. BoNickal He achieved his seventh career victory, his fourth in the UFC. At 28 years old, the American is considered one of the most prominent stars in wrestling and was a three-time NCAA champion.
