After agreeing to a fight with Poatan in March, Magomed Ankalayev changed his speech and stated that he will fight the Brazilian in May.
The Russian published the first hypothesis in 'X' (old Twitter) on Thursday (21) in a clear sign of availability. Ankalaev is Muslim and Ramadan in 2025 runs from February 28 to the 29th of the following month. In other words, Magomed would fight even while fasting for the belt. Days after the post, the first-placed contender for the light heavyweight division (up to 93kg) postponed the imaginary date for two months when speaking to a Russian news channel. And he also accused Alex Poatán to delay the fight.

“Pereira has not yet agreed to the fight. But sooner or later it will happen. I think the fight could happen in May,” Ankalaev told Tass.
Russian persecution
After winning their last two clashes, against Johnny Walker e Aleksandar rakic, Magomed Ankalayev has been asking for a fight against the current champion with frequent provocations. The Russian has a record of 20 wins, one loss and one draw in his professional career.
Meanwhile, Alex Poatán has spent the last few weeks in Asia. The Brazilian has been in South Korea for a few days. He has been busy with public events since winning Khalil rountree Jr. no UFC 307, in early October. The fighter pays the price of fame and charisma by winning fans all over the world. The Brazilian has already publicly stated that he is recovering from the intense fights of this year and will only return to the octagon in March.
