After his victory in UFC 309, Jon Jones made it clear that if the UFC wants to see him face Tom aspinall, will be necessary to open the safes. The heavyweight champion (up to 120,2 kg) has already stated that he does not believe that a fight against the interim champion would add anything to his legacy. This stance has drawn criticism from many fans, who accuse him of avoiding the duel to preserve his impeccable record. However, for UFC commentator Jon Anik, even if Jones were to be defeated by Aspinall, it would not diminish “Bones’” accomplishments in the octagon.
While acknowledging that Jones' achievements cannot be erased, the commentator suggests that 'Bones' deserves a career-high purse if he accepts this fight. In an interview with 'MMA Junkie', Anik argued that the payment would be justified not only by the magnitude of the event, but also by the great risk involved in the fight.

“I think what he wants is somewhere in the $30, $40, $50 million range, which he definitely deserves at this point, because in heavyweight MMA, anything can happen. The consequences are huge when it’s four-ounce gloves with these guys throwing punches. I mean, yeah, Tom aspinall could knock out Jon Jones in a minute, and I don't think it would diminish his legacy in any way. But he should make 30 million,” Anik explained.
Jon Jones vs Tom Aspinall
After knocking out Stipe Miocic No. UFC 309, Jon Jones expressed his preference for facing Alex Poatán, the current light heavyweight champion (up to 93 kg). However, UFC president Dana White has another idea: he wants to see Jones unify the belts against the interim heavyweight champion, Tom aspinall. Although nothing has been confirmed at this time, the heavyweight champions recently revealed that they are in talks with the UFC to define their next steps.
