Speculation about the future of Islam makhachev became practically a certainty after the lightweight champion's own team (up to 70,3 kg) 'leaked' on social media that the next belt defense would take place in UFC 311, on January 18th. The Russian's manager, Ali Abdelaziz, however, guarantees that nothing has been signed.
In an interview with the 'Ushatayka' channel, the agent confirmed that Makhachev is preparing to face Arman Tsarukyan, first place in the ranking, on January 18, but he has assured that he has not yet received any contract from the UFC.

“No, the contracts have not been signed. We personally have not signed or received anything yet, but we are preparing for January 18th. In September they gave us that date. We accepted it, but there was no specific confirmation about the opponent, we just assumed it will be.” Arman Tsarukyan", said.
Islam makhachev has been lightweight champion since October 2022, when he submitted Charles of the Bronx and won the vacant belt. Since then, the Russian has equaled the record for title defenses, twice against Alexander Volkanovsky and, more recently, against Dustin poirier, in June.
Main candidate to dispute the title, Arman Tsarukyan is ranked first and has four consecutive victories, the last of which was over Charles of the Bronx, in history UFC 300, in April.
