Two-time Olympic judo champion Kayla Harrison continues her rise in the UFC and has established herself as one of the organization's top stars. Despite the clamor from fans and UFC president Dana White for a super fight against the legendary Amanda Nunes , the American remains grounded and prioritizes winning the bantamweight (up to 61,2kg) title.
In an interview with 'MMA Fighting', Kayla Harrison made it clear that her focus right now is on becoming the champion of the division. The fighter has already defeated big names like Aspen Ladd , Holly Holm , and Ketlen Vieira , and with her victory over Ketlen Vieira in October, she moved even closer to a title shot.

“I’m not going to challenge Amanda until I have the belt. When I do, I’m going to build the biggest fight in women’s MMA history. Until then, I’m clamoring for that title. It would just make me look like an idiot. It’s not personal to me. Of course, I want to fight Amanda. I have great respect for everything she’s accomplished in the sport, and for me, there’s no greater honor than saying, ‘I want what you have,’” the athlete declared.
Retired since June 2023, Amanda had previously trained with Kayla Harrison at American Top Team, the world's largest MMA academy. However, in 2021, the Brazilian began to notice the American's interest in migrating to the UFC and, to avoid giving ammunition to a future rival, preferred to leave 'ATT' and found her own team.
