If at any point the pursuit of a second belt in another category was part of Alexandre Pantoja 's plans , that is in the past. On the eve of attempting his third defense of the flyweight title (up to 56,7 kg) against Kai Asakura in the main event of UFC 310 , this Saturday (7), the champion showed himself to be entirely focused on his division.
In an interview with the American website 'MMA Junkie', Alexandre Pantoja admitted that his previous interest in moving up to bantamweight (up to 61,2 kg) was due to the possibility of settling differences with former champion Sean O'Malley, who was dethroned in September by Merab Dvalishvili.

“No, I’m the flyweight champion. I want to stay here for a long time. I only thought about moving up to face O’Malley because we have a history and he said some stupid things. I want to prove that I beat him in the gym and I can beat him in a real fight,” explained the Brazilian.
Seeking his third title defense, Alexandre Pantoja assures that he still has interesting fights to do in the UFC flyweight division. The champion, however, did not mention any names and said he is focused only on putting on a show against his next challenger.
“I have some good options. Right now I'm only thinking about Kai Asakura and putting on a great show for everyone. That's what I want. To put on a show for all my fans on December 7th. It's going to be great,” he concluded.
