Belal Muhammad 's injury has created a great opportunity for Ian Garry . Ranked seventh in the welterweight division (up to 77,1 kg), the Irishman has a chance to win the title shot if he defeats Shavkat Rakhmonov at UFC 310. However, it seems that one of his main targets at the moment is someone else: Colby Covington.

In an interview with the Ariel Helwani Show last Monday (2), Garry dedicated several minutes to blasting the American, in addition to stating his interest in facing him after the duel with Rakhmonov this Saturday (7).

“I’ve been yelling and screaming about fighting that man. He made videos about me, my wife, my kids, said all that crap. And now he’s avoiding me like the plague. This is my ideal scenario: I go there, I finish Shavkat early. I come out of there unscathed. I grab the microphone and say, ‘Hey. I can wait until next year when Belal Muhammad ’s back or… walk to Florida, and beat the crap out of Colby Covington for 25 minutes,’” Garry declared.

The Irishman also took the opportunity to criticize the choice of opponents for the former interim champion in the division. Just one week after UFC 310 , Covington will face Joaquin Bluckey in the main event of the last event of the year, in Tampa, Florida.

“The second I booked the scariest man in the division, he said, ‘Oh, I’m going to fight in Florida.’ That just shows you what a coward he is, and he doesn’t want anything to do with me. The truth is, I know I’ve beaten him. I know I’ve beaten him mentally. He’s weak. He’s an absolute coward,” the fighter said.

Covington hasn't won in over two years

Approaching his 37th birthday, Colby Covington is not one of the most active fighters in the division. He has only had five fights in the last five years, and has a negative record, with three losses and two wins. His last victory was against Jorge Masvidal in 2022. In his last appearance, against Leon Edwards , the American was defeated by unanimous decision. The fight was for the welterweight title (up to 77,1 kg).
